Joy at the beach – Wingaersheek Beach, Gloucester, MA

As the weather is slowly turning cooler, the beach takes on a slightly different feel – cold sand and, in this case, strangely warm water, fewer crowds, and an earlier sunset (perfect for the kiddos!). When Kate contacted me a couple months ago for a session, I was blown away. She was my younger sister’s friend throughout middle and junior high school; we hadn’t been in touch for years. She looks exactly how I remember her – beautiful, but now with a husband and two darling daughters, big sister H and baby J. We had an unusually warm September evening for our shoot on the beach. And the kids (and parents!) were awesome. Big sister H had on her “extra good listening ears,”  as the saying goes in my house. And baby J held her own, even on the cold sand.

Kate and Andy, thanks so much for a fantastic shoot. It was great seeing you again, Kate. Your family is beautiful! To view the complete gallery, click here (password protected; please contact either the family or me if interested).

Baby sister for sale – Winchester, MA

I LOVE the fall. It is my favorite season. The pumpkins, apples, crisp air, falling leaves, warm sweaters and cozy boots – I love all of it. When Jennifer told me about her idea for a Halloween image that she wanted to attempt, I immediately had to giggle. She and her husband, John, have two little nuggets. And, well, instead of me explaining what her idea was, I’ll just show you the image:

After we got that hilarious shot, we took a short drive to a local farm. They have this cute little swing inside their barn. Love baby E’s face here.

Big brother E seemed really impressed by the chickens!

We found a nice shady spot to take a few family portraits.

Checking out the sheep. Did you know that when they go to move the sheep to a different part of the farm, they lure them with molasses? True story.

Baby E was so exhausted from our session that THIS is how she fell asleep. Can you imagine falling asleep like this?Big brother E was on the go for most of the session but seemed interested enough in some nature to stop for a brief moment. Such a cutie-pie.

Thanks, Jennifer and John, for an ambitious and adventurous session! To see the complete gallery, click here (password protected; please contact me or the family if interested).

Welcome to the world, Baby M – Lynnfield, MA

Within the home of a newborn baby, there is a unique stillness and warm feeling – new baby items strewn about, new parents vacillating between being awestruck and exhausted, and, of course, the ever-so-cute baby trying to figure out their new home. I love it – the newness of all of it. This little lovebug was just so cute and cooperative, especially for being 16 days old (ideal time to do a newborn shoot is within the first 10 days). And his parents were awesome, hanging in there when things got dicey, and rolling with the punches.

By far, this was my favorite hat of the session. I ADORE it. And if you know this little man, you know that it is very fitting given his name!

Can you guess what line of work his father does? I mean, the handcuffs aren’t quite functional, but still, the uniform makes you stop in your tracks, right?

Oh, hello, little eyes! Yes, you’re in a basket.

I love how in months to come, when baby M grows and grows, mom and dad can look back at this image and see just how tiny he was. The relative size of dad’s hands to his head will seem unreal.

Tom and Katie, thanks so much for a sweet little shoot. Wishing you all the best in this new chapter of your lives. Baby M is a lucky little bug. To view the complete gallery, click here (password protected; please contact the family or me if interested).

Got spunk? – Salisbury State Beach, MA

Spunk is the word that comes to mind when I think of 8-year-old little Miss S. She is full of energy, sass, and yup, spunk. During our session, she sang the entire Katy Perry, “Roar” song at least two whole times through nailing every single word. She has even been a guest DJ for a local radio show a handful of times! I’ve known Karen, her mom, since I was in junior high – she was my older sister’s cool friend who treated me like a friend, too. Since she has so much personality, I’m just going to roll out all my favorites and you can see for yourself!

Karen, Steve, and Miss S – thank you so much for a fun session. It was super windy and the sun/clouds didn’t quite cooperate the way we had hoped, but you guys were so great! These pictures make me smile. To view the complete gallery, click here (password protected; contact the family or me if interested).

A walk in the park – North Reading, MA

When Julie contacted me to do a session with her family, I immediately thought of this particular park as her two young boys are active and figured they would enjoy a bit of running around time in the early morning. It was a lovely scene: the leaves had just started to fall and the clouds provided some nice soft lighting for most of the session. The boys seemed in good spirits and Julie and Oliver came armed with coffee.

These little boys are full of energy (where DO they get it?), but before we let them run wild, we got this adorable family shot.

Julie and Oliver were used to the running around and seemed to enjoy watching them play all around them.

Little L found THE perfect picnic table, and therefore, did not want to stray from said table even though there were a dozen other picnic tables within sight. Oliver helped move him along ever so subtly.

Ahh, nature – so much to explore and examine.

Getting these two boys to sit for a photo together was a *little* tricky, but once we found this giant rock, they seemed amenable to the idea.

They enjoyed the rock so much (and ended up turning it into a “slide,” of course), that we managed to get another cute family pic at the end of our session. Julie and Oliver, thank you for the opportunity to photograph your handsome boys. Keep the coffee coming!
