Senior portrait session (Nicholas) – Winchester, MA

He is kind and well-grounded, confident without being overly so, and isn’t *too* shy showing affection to his parents. It seems to baffle him as much as it does his parents that he’s actually a senior in high school. He loves the family dog, Boomer, and, if nudged, would likely admit that he loves his “little” brother, too. He’s trying football for the first time this year (and has the elbow bandaged up to prove it), because if not now, when? Man, I could wax poetic about the passage of time, about how absolutely crazy it is that this kid… ahem, young man, is a senior in high school, but I will let the last image in this post speak to that. It’s from 2011, the first time I photographed this family.

Cara and Dick, thanks for trusting me through all of these past eight years (!) to capture your awesome crew (and for hiring me even when my photography skills were clearly still developing!). Best of luck to you, Nicholas, in your final year in high school. You are off to do great things!

Family portrait session (Lynne, Greg, C, S, A, & B) – Winchester, MA

Having four kids is not for the faint of heart (and I can only speak from the kid perspective as one of four sisters). Not only do you have to take care of four small beings, making sure they are fed, clothed, educated, well-rested, active, kind, patient, etcetera, but you also have to help nurture (and referee?) the relationships between four said children. And, doing some 5th grade math, that tells me there’s SIX relationships between them to keep an eye on (someone want to check me on that?), six different dynamics that can exist at any given moment. That’s not even counting the relationships between each kid and each parent! Whew.

From what I can tell, Lynne and Greg are skilled and well-versed in all of it. These four bright, funny, and beautiful small beings are kind and patient. They are respectful and playful. They seem happy to tease and be teased, they laugh easily, and listen well. And they are growing up so darn fast!

Lynne and Greg, congratulations on successfully merging into the realm of high school with your oldest while also ushering your youngest through elementary school. Your balancing act is one to be admired!

Family portrait session (Rachel, Drew, A, & C) – Brookline, MA

A couple of years ago, big brother A was not so excited about getting his picture taken. But this year, he popped out of their car with his own fancy camera and took a photo of ME! So cute. As for little sister, her mom warned me she might be a little tricky this morning, but I did not expect her to be *so* suspicious of me (check out the side-eye)! We all had a few laughs, though, as we walked through the park and caught up on the joys and challenges of parenthood – how fast the preschool hours fly by and yet how long some of the days feel, how different personalities shine through at different times, and yet how similar siblings can be, too. Through it all, though, Rachel and Drew seem to always make it clear to their kids just how much they love them, just how much they adore and care for each of their curious, happy, and sometimes contemplative kids.

It’s always a joy seeing you all! So happy for your new 4-legged baby to have found such a loving family. Thank you, thank you for trusting me to capture some of your family’s special moments.

Family portrait session (Suzanna, Nick, J, & J) – Winchester, MA

Ah, brotherly love. Or, headlocks? They are *almost* one in the same according to these awesome boys. They’ve grown SO much over the past year and are successfully keeping their parents on-the-go. They ran, they jumped, they wrestled. We explored the secret bridge and checked out the water. They made faces at each other and jumped on one another. They squeezed and hugged. And bonus – this year, we were lucky enough to be joined by Nick’s mom and her husband to get a few photos of them all together.

Suzanna and Nick, thank you so much for your continued trust to capture your family year after year. It is always a joy to see you all!

Family portrait session (Katie, Chip, C, & R) – Brookline, MA

Maybe all he needed was a pee break? Maybe. But Katie and Chip did what most parents would do when one kid isn’t exactly doing what they want them to do: move on and hope they’ll come around. The resulting photo may come back to haunt him when he’s 20, but to me (and hopefully to his doting parents!), it’s precious. Check it out for yourself and tell me what you think. Being a kid is hard, being a big brother is challenging, but in the end, there is love. And koi fish. And a fun little bridge. And a playground!

Katie and Chip, I simply loved seeing you all again. I can’t believe how big the kids are since last year, but I hope these photos always help you remember their cuteness and their dynamic, budding personalities no matter how big they get.
